Knowledge about the important influence of vitamin K2 and D3 on our health is growing. Vitamin K2 and D3 are therefore used daily by more and more people, as a supplement to their diet. In Vitamin K2+D3 from Vitals, both nutrients are combined, because it is also becoming increasingly clear how great the synergy is and how the metabolic functions overlap. A strong combination!

Vitamin K2 + D3 from Vitals consists of vegan softgels with a generous dosage of both fat-soluble vitamins, in a base of MCT oil. The softgel is made opaque with iron oxide to protect the very light-sensitive vitamins. Softgels are popular and extremely pleasant to use because they are easy to swallow. Fortunately, softgels are no longer exclusively made from gelatin. They are now also available from vegetable sources (such as tapioca starch from cassava).

The vitamin D3 in this product with the brand name Vitamin D3V® is also plant-based. It is obtained from algae, and not from sheep's wool fat (like many vitamin D3 products on the market). The product is therefore also very suitable for vegans. The vitamin K2 is the K2Vital® from the Norwegian K2 specialist Kappa Bioscience. As you are used to from Vitals, we have again chosen only branded ingredients of the best quality!

Vitamins K and D work together to get calcium to the right place
Vitamin D stimulates the production of certain proteins in the body that depend on vitamin K for their function. These so-called Gla proteins are activated by vitamin K so that they can then perform their function. Important examples of this are osteocalcin (1) and Matrix Gla protein (MGP) (2). A common property of these vitamin K-dependent Gla proteins is that they bind calcium. In this way, vitamin K and vitamin D together ensure that calcium from our food ends up in the right places in the body. See figure 1.

1) Osteocalcin: (also known as 'bone-Gla-protein') is a vitamin K-dependent protein that is produced in bone and tooth tissue and regulates their mineralization.

2) Matrix Gla protein: a vitamin K-dependent protein produced in most soft tissues, such as blood vessels, cartilage, kidneys, lungs, and spleen, as well as bone tissue. MGP (like osteocalcin and other Gla proteins) has a calcium-binding property.

Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D3 are the superior forms
Vitamin K1 is mainly absorbed by the liver and ensures activation of proteins that play a role in blood clotting. Vitamin K2 is also used outside the liver for the activation of other vitamin K-dependent proteins (such as osteocalcin and MGP). Vitamin K2 (or 'menaquinone') occurs in various forms, of which the best known are MK-4, MK-7, MK-8 and MK-9. According to the current state of science, menaquinone-7 (MK-7) is the most effective form of vitamin K2. MK-7 is excellently absorbed and remains in the body for a very long time in order to be effective.

The most common forms of vitamin D (calciferol) are vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Cholecalciferol is produced by humans in the skin under the influence of ultraviolet light, such as the sun (hence the nickname 'sun vitamin'). These forms of vitamin D are converted in the liver into calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D). Calcidiol is converted as needed in the kidneys and other cells and tissues into the biologically active hormone calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D). In the area of supplementation, however, it is important to know that vitamin D3 appears to be more effective than vitamin D2 in most cases in increasing blood calcidiol and ultimately calcitriol.

K2Vital® from the Norwegian K2 expert Kappa Bioscience
Vitamin K2 is known to be very unstable in a food supplement. In combination with minerals or certain additives, the vitamin K2 content in a product can quickly decrease. This is of course very undesirable, because you want to be able to store a supplement for the entire shelf life. The Norwegian manufacturer Kappa Bioscience has developed vitamin K2 raw materials that are proven to be stable and extremely pure. It is not without reason that vitamin K2 from Kappa Bioscience is the first choice among scientists to use in human research into the effects of vitamin K. Vitals has selected Kappa Bioscience as the best vitamin K2 supplier after extensive stability tests with various K2 raw materials in various compositions.
